Documents, CAS, financial proof, medical requirements, and the most common mistakes that delay approval.
UK student visa timeline
Start your application 10–12 weeks before your course begins. The CAS is issued by the university after your admission is confirmed, and you must submit your visa application within 6 months of the CAS date.
- Week 1–2: Confirm admission and receive CAS from your university.
- Week 2–3: Collect financial documents, passport, photos, and English language evidence.
- Week 3–5: Submit your visa application through the UKVCAS portal and book your biometric appointment.
- Week 5–10: Track the visa decision. Most approvals arrive in 3–4 weeks, but it can take longer during peak intake.

Common maintenance amounts
- London: £1,334 per month for up to 9 months
- Outside London: £1,023 per month for up to 9 months
- Course fees: Full tuition fees shown on your CAS certificate
Common mistakes to avoid
- Submitting old bank statements. Use the latest 28 days of statements with no unexplained large deposits.
- Missing the CAS expiry. Apply within 6 months of the CAS issue date.
- Not paying the healthcare surcharge. This is mandatory and must be included with the visa application.
- Using the wrong sponsor type. Make sure the course listed on your CAS matches the visa application.
