Studying abroad involves more paperwork and preparation than most students expect. Missing a single document can delay your visa by weeks or cost you your university seat. This checklist covers everything you need. From the first day you decide to apply, to the day you land at your destination.
Academic Documents
- 10th and 12th mark sheets and passing certificates.
- Undergraduate degree certificate and all semester mark sheets.
- Any postgraduate certificates or diplomas, if applicable.
- Updated CV or resume tailored for your target programs.
English Language Tests
- IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT score report. Most universities require a minimum of 6.5 IELTS or equivalent.
- PTE Academic score if accepted by your target universities.
- Duolingo English Test scores for universities that accept it.
Standardised Test Scores (if required)
- GRE General Test for most graduate programs in the US and Canada.
- GMAT for MBA programs.
- SAT or ACT for undergraduate programs in the US.
Application Documents
- Statement of Purpose (SOP). Customised for each program.
- Letters of Recommendation (LOR). Typically two to three from professors or managers.
- Portfolio (for design, architecture, or arts programs).
- Research proposal (for PhD applications).
Financial Documents for Visa
- Bank statements showing adequate funds. Usually the last 6 months.
- Fixed deposit or savings certificates.
- Sponsorship letter from parents or guardians.
- Income tax returns of sponsor (last 2–3 years).
- Property documents or proof of assets if required.
Visa Documents
- Offer letter from your university.
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for the UK, or equivalent for other countries.
- Passport with at least 18 months validity beyond your intended stay.
- Biometric appointment confirmation.
- Medical examination results if required.
Pre-Departure Checklist
- Flight bookings and travel insurance.
- Accommodation confirmation. University hall or private rental.
- Forex card or international bank account setup.
- Copies of all documents stored digitally and in print.
